Dr. St Goar has been practicing cardiology in the El Camino Community for over 28 years. He has a passion for optimizing care, and takes a sincere interest in the long-term health and wellness of his patients, many of whom he has cared for the extent of his practice. He was involved in the early stages of developing an interventional cardiology approach for the management of heart attacks. He is also a leader in structural heart valve repairs and pioneered the catheter-based approach to mitral regurgitation (MR). In 1999 he founded the company Evalve which developed the MitraClip, the sole FDA approved percutaneous therapy of MR. To date, this therapy has been successfully used in over 100,000 patients around the world. Dr. St Goar is also the Medical Director of El Camino Hospital’s Norma Melchor Heart and Vascular Institute. He went to medical school at Harvard and did his internal medicine and cardiology training at Stanford. He is married to Dr Anne Friedlander, who is a Human Biology Professor at Stanford, and he has three grown children. In his spare time, he enjoys cycling, skiing and other outdoor activities.
